How to collaborate… with whales (#2)

“We’re two blokes in the middle of the Atlantic. We have oars, a satellite phone, two GoPros, some freeze-dried food, a Dropbox Business subscription and Justin Bieber on repeat. Home is miles away. Barbados, our target, is miles away. We’ve met sharks and whales, 30 foot waves and had near misses with three gigantic cargo ships. This is our Dropbox journey to the cloud.”

We now know night-times in the Atlantic are long and lonely.

We are literally in the middle of no-where. A tiny pinprick in the enormous blue map of the ocean.

While one rows, the other sleeps although we do have some company in the form of whales. So far I’d say curiosity of our strange looking craft has got the better of 60-70 of them, some coming within 10 feet.

The weather has been bad these early days. Not the most auspicious of starts for a couple of ‘sea-virgins’ like us. A storm swell got into the cabin, which resulted in a wet mattress so it’s a pretty dismal place to be. Overnight it’s dripping with condensation and during the day it’s hotter than hell.

We’d also like to lay claim to holding one of the world’s most pointless Secret Santa’s of all time. My Santa, can’t think who it was, got me some pan pipes. James got a Bieber calendar from his.

Happy days.

The second of our Tempest Two series which follows the boys on their Dropbox sponsored journey across the Atlantic.
