The Dropbox iOS app; introducing a new way to work

Ever wondered how much time you, or your staff, or even your bosses, spend every week on just looking for stuff?

Stuck at your desk, retrieving documents for meetings, customer data, consumer information, really important stuff that keeps your business running, helps you grow, makes you more creative, to be better at your job.

Ten minutes a day, half-an hour, maybe an hour?

Well according to a widely quoted McKinsey report, it’s more, a whole lot more. In fact they calculate you and your workers are spending an average of 20% of every week searching for, and retrieving, information.

That’s pretty shocking. It’s an entire day. Put another way, it’s a full year for every five years you work.

We could just put it down to modern life – the fact we’re producing around 2.5 billion gigabytes of data every day – so no wonder we’re each using up ten-and-a-half working weeks every year trying to find where we put it all.

Or we could say there must be alternatives.

After all, we don’t spend weeks of our personal life searching for what our friends are up to, or using the web to find things to do this weekend. We have access to a world of information at our fingertips in just a matter of seconds. So why not the same at work?

It’s a question we’re asking and finding answers for all the time at Dropbox, to make stuff faster, more secure, simpler. It’s a question our new CTO Aditya Agarwal is committed to answering too.

And it’s one of the motivations behind the new Dropbox iOS app.

Mobility is key. It provides freedom, more choice. So often we’re uncovering success stories of innovative brands like Ugly Drinks, and Balich Worldwide Shows, running amazing ‘small’ businesses without the claustrophobic confines of old software, and old ways of doing things.

And our new iOS app supports them, it speaks to that philosophy. With five new mobile productivity features it makes working on your iPhone or iPad faster and easier. With data already filed, it enables you to do things like share Dropbox files in iMessage, sign PDFs on the move, and create and view files without unlocking your phone. Fast, simple and secure.

We don’t encourage you wasting your time, life’s too short for that, but we do encourage you to click the link and find out more about the new app. Who knows, it could be time spent searching for something that helps you claw back years of your work-time!
