How to make a film in Dropbox Paper

“This is the first time we’ve worked through an entire film via Dropbox Paper. It’s been a huge success and certainly something we will continue doing.” Hasraf ‘Haz’ Dulull, Producer/Director, HAZ VFX LTD.

Film making is the art of visual storytelling, communicating to an audience using engaging images. But behind the scenes of film production communication is essential, especially when it comes to turning ideas into productions.

Someone who knows that only too well is Hasraf ‘Haz’ Dulull, HAZ VFX LTD.  At this year’s Sundance Film Festival in London, the self-confessed ‘filmmaker on the move’ explained that for him, successful teamwork is all about effective communication: “I feel my team has got this far because we are a family and regardless of our location we are able to communicate and share ideas. It’s important everyone is in sync and talking to each other.”

So, how does Haz ensure clear communication amongst his team? By doing things visually, and doing it in the cloud: “I’m a big fan of visual communication, I hate writing long emails. When I’m working with creatives and using online collaboration tools, I can screen shot something, circle it, and say ‘that’s wrong.’”

Having managed the pre-production, production and post production process for his latest film, The Beyond, entirely through Dropbox Paper, Haz explains the importance of ensuring his team always has access to the most up to date content: “Using Dropbox Paper, whatever you’re working on, is going to be the same on everyone’s screen. That’s very important when you’re working with creatives on content creation.”
